Who are we looking for?

AHI is looking for a results-oriented leader with a history of strong sales and operations success, preferably as a manager in the Poultry or Animal Agriculture field. Candidates may reside in AL, AR, MS, TN, GA, SC, or NC.

What can you expect as a Production Animal Sales Manager?

As a Sales Manager, you will direct and supervise a team of geographically dispersed outside sales and customer service professionals to ensure outstanding customer service, accurate order entry and processing, collaboration between AHI commercial and operational functions, and to generate sales growth per the annual budget.  You will play the key role in developing and executing strategies to drive growth and profitability of your region.


Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

Strategic Planning and Execution

  • Develops and implements the Annual Operating Plan consisting of sales targets, sales and marketing plans, and operating expense budgeting.
  • Analyzing and evaluating sales activities as well as market trends and customer needs for sales optimization.
  • Assist Outside Sales Representatives in developing target markets and identifying opportunities
  • Business plan development at the rep level and support of sales force toolkits
  • Works closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the appropriate objectives and priorities are enabled within the sales organization

Coaching and Development

  • Develops and motivates sales team by providing ongoing training and development and by giving specific and constructive feedback and coaching to foster development of skills. 
  • Reviewing and evaluating the work of direct reports to assess job performance
  • Recruiting, hiring, and onboarding sales and customer service employees.

Customer Focus and Manufacturing Partner Relations

  • Establish relationships within the Poultry industry at the management level to facilitate AHI growth opportunities. 
  • Orchestrate bid process with large poultry integrators.
  • Be personally involved and invested in the relationships with top customers in the region.
  • Develop and maintain strong manufacturer relationships and identify new opportunities and partners for the Poultry division.
  • Work with Purchasing in monitoring product purchases, inventory levels and pricing, forecasting, and identifying new opportunities.

Job Related Knowledge: Knowledge of financial and accounting procedures (e.g., asset control, profit and loss analysis, general ledger).  Knowledge of basic business principles.  Knowledge of how a business operates and makes a profit.  Knowledge of the inventory control and management processes.

Working Conditions

Physical Demand:

  • Move up to 25 lbs.
  • Stationary position 75% of the time

  • Computer, including MS Office, SAP, and other proprietary software

Travel and On-Call:

  • 50-60% Travel as required


What background and experience is needed?

The ideal candidate will possess at least a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Poultry Science, Animal Science, Management, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of 3 years of experience with a proven track record in sales is required.

In-depth computer proficiency including knowledge of MS Office and, specifically, expertise in Excel is required. SAP experience is plus. Previous experience in the following areas: customer service, management is preferred, as is previous experience supervising sales teams. Animal Agriculture experience is a must and specifically Poultry Industry experience is highly desired.

The ability to effectively lead people and build a high performing team, being adaptable, and facilitate ongoing development is key. Possessing a high business acumen, strong decision making skills and a strong customer focus is vital.
