Supply Chain Manager

Kane Veterinary Supplies is a Canadian wholesale distributor and manufacturer agent, providing excellence in distribution of the highest quality, cutting edge, value-laden products to the veterinary, agricultural, equine, and pet markets across Canada.

FULL-TIME

This position is required to mostly work on-site at either our Edmonton, AB or Cambridge, ON location with responsibility to both facilities.

Job Summary

The Supply Chain Manager brings an expert level of knowledge and experience to optimize the supply chain operations and support strategic initiatives.  This position requires a deep understanding of supply chain principles, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to provide guidance and mentorship to the team. 

They will serve as a key resource within the organization, actively seeking process improvement opportunities, analyzing total supply chain costs, and leading collaborative forecasting efforts with vendors.  They will implement purchasing strategies, advance internal processes, prepare in-depth inventory analysis and monitor sales trends to add value, better assist, and support business leaders within the organization.  This individual will interact closely with all department leaders with the goal of conducting powerful insight and impactful business partner reviews for sales, operations, and manufacturing partners.

Supplier Management

  • Lead collaborative planning calls with vendors and communicate forecasts accordingly.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating favourable terms, prices and contracts to ensure a consistent and reliable supply of products.

  • Evaluate purchase decisions based on financial analysis and total supply chain costs. 

  • Experience with Contract Management Systems and Software including managing contracts, negotiation, redlining and evaluating terms and conditions, along with working with internal/external legal teams.  Own the rebate and backend incentives including credit/debit policy and procedures.

  • Work closely with team members on Private Label initiatives.

Inventory Control

  • Develop and implement inventory management strategies to optimize stock levels, minimize holding cost and prevent stockouts or overstock situations.

  • Ensure the team optimizes inventory levels and fill rates across the business distribution network to meet service level targets.

  • Help lead the management of excess and obsolete processes for assigned products, including identification of obsolescence reserve requirements, coordination of disposition, returns, and disposal, making strategic recommendations to optimize inventory and minimize costs.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to optimize inventory processes, actively seek and drive continuous improvement initiatives contributing to the enhancement of operational and supply chain efficiency.                                                                                                       

  • Identify cost-savings opportunities within the procurement process while maintaining product quality standards.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Quality Assurance

  • Collaborate with quality control teams to ensure all products meet safety and quality standards and promptly address any quality issues and/or recalls.

  • Work with Patterson Enterprise regulatory and compliance teams including internal and external auditors. 

  • Reviewing and building new SOPs relating to procurement, inventory management including product performance measures.

Analysis:

  • Create and deliver presentations for division leads, leadership, and manufacturing partners.  Convey complex concepts, ideas, strategies to both technical and non-technical stakeholders internally and externally. 

  • Experience and a high skill set working with W.M.S and Data Analysis tools and software including Power BI.  Preparing in depth product analysis by conducting comprehensive analysis of inventory levels, sales data and trends to impact decision making to support inventory replenishment and planners.

  • Stay updated with industry trends, market dynamics and emerging suppliers to make informed procurement decisions.

People Management:

  • Demonstrates a commitment to Patterson’s values and professionalism through appropriate conduct and team building initiatives.

  • Creation and management of KPIs.  Conduct employee reviews, building out goals and action plans that align with the enterprise.  Strong training, coaching and mentoring skills in the spirit of advancing the Company and its team members.

  • Manages direct reports including the hiring, development, performance management, goal setting, and other managerial duties.

  • Ensures direct reports are aware of and follow established business policies, practices, and the Company’s Code of Conduct to create a supportive and productive working environment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business or related fields with a designation or certification (SCMP, CPSM or PMP)

  • 5+ years of purchasing and planning experience in a related industry, including material planning and forecasting using ERP tools.

  • 5+ years of experience in a procurement related role with increasing responsibility.

  • 5+ years of contract negotiation experience.

  • High level of business analysis experience utilizing data driven software (e.g. Power BI) and uses technology with efficiency.

  • Proficiency in using supply chain planning tools an systems and advanced analytics tools.

  • Ability to analyze supply chain costs and financial impact, with a track record of maximizing working capital and identifying cost-saving opportunities.

  • Advanced analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data, perform cost analysis, and draw meaningful insights.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills both written and oral, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and vendors.

  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking abilities, with the capability to align supply chain strategies with organizational goals and objectives.

  • Demonstrated experience managing complex relationships.

  • Advanced experience using Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc).

  • Experience in inventory management, including excess and obsolete management.

  • Experience with creating and implementing SOPs.

  • Ability to work and influence others from different functional areas and levels within and outside the organization.

  • Knowledge of process improvement tools and techniques

  • Strong desire to learn and grow within the company and position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in supply chain management, business administration, or related field.

  • APICS or other supply chain or process improvement certifications.

  • Experience in driving process improvements and implementing supply chain best practices with knowledge of process improvement tools and techniques (LEAN, Six Sigma).

  • Prior experience in leading or participating in enterprise-wide supply chain initiatives.

  • In-depth knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in supply chain planning.

  • 3+ years’ experience in a wholesale distribution center

  • Experience with Global Trade Services and Custom Trade software including Sanctioned Party lists, embargo and legal controls would be an asset.

  • Experience and understanding of platforms utilizing tools and advanced statistical techniques to manage inventories and lead times effectively.

  • Experience utilizing product forecasts and advanced analytical tools to drive informed decision-making and enhance supply chain performance.

  • Experience leading and implementation of new technology.

  • Previous working experience with project management.

Environmental Factors

  • This position is in an office environment in which team members occupy desks in assigned areas or at meeting/collaboration spaces within the building. The building’s primary work areas consist of desks, chairs, computers and other office equipment and devices for professional services.

Travel

  • Travel within Canada with occasional international travel is required.
