Overview


Turnkey Computer Systems is hiring a Software Engineer to join our team in Fargo, ND! 

Turnkey, a division of Patterson Companies, is the leading supplier of operations management and accounting systems to the cattle feeding industry.

This newly created position will join an established team of developers and will be focused on a crucial role in the development of our next generation of software systems. 

Over the next few years we will be creating several new modules using Cloud-based technology and Mobile components.  This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of application development and a chance to work with some cutting-edge technology to help us establish a premiere line of products for our customers. 

Our software has been on the leading edge of the cattle feeding industry for over twenty-five years, and we continue to enhance and refine it to meet the needs of our customers.  From multi-user, multi-company database applications, to remote, web, and wireless network connections, we provide a “turnkey” level of service, value, and flexibility.  Turnkey applications and systems track over 10,000,000 head of cattle per year in the U.S. and Canada.


Responsibilities


Software Development:  Collaborates with clients, developers and other team members in the conceptualization and development of new or existing software applications.  Defines, develops and documents software business requirements, objectives, deliverables, and specifications on a project-by-project basis in collaboration with internal users and departments.  Researches, identifies, analyzes, and fulfills requirements of all internal and external program users and stakeholders. Writes programming scripts to enhance functionality and/or performance of company applications as needed.  Executes software testing on new and existing programs for the purposes of correcting errors and general debugging.

Project Team Work:  Participates in and may lead the definition of software development project plans, including scoping, scheduling, and implementation. Performs and may lead program turnover to production support and customers upon completion of development, testing, and documentation. Helps mentor software engineer peers through technical advice and reference.

Issue Resolution:  Provides higher level support for incoming incident tickets from end users to resolve application and software issues. Partners with other engineers in resolving problems with software products or company software systems.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Sciences, Mathematics, Engineering, Business, or area of functional responsibility preferred, or a combination of equivalent education and experience
  • 4-6 years of programming experience required. Should have prior experience within various platforms and languages
  • Knowledge of all aspects of application development and project life cycles
  • Excellent understanding of coding methods and best practices
  • Demonstrated experience in object oriented programming and design
  • Extensive relational database and operating systems experience
  • Ability to conduct research into software-related issues and products
  • Experience using source code management system
  • Proficiency with office productivity tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Must complete a basic OO programming exercise to our satisfaction prior to interview.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using source code management system GIT and SVN
  • Knowledge of WCF, Web API, or ServiceStack
  • Knowledge of Microsoft UWP, XAML, WPF, .Net, Xamarin, and C#
  • Knowledge of MVVM
  • Knowledge of Agile and SCRUM practices
  • Knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Understanding of corporate governance, business cases and return on investment concepts
