Job Summary

The Agricultural Engineer with Animal Health International partners with our sales team in providing automation solutions in feed manufacturing to our new and existing customers.    The Agricultural Engineer will develop automation solutions for customer feedmill operations, design and implement dispensing equipment solutions, and provide technical support for systems installed in customer facilities. This position will be responsible for supporting AHI dispensing equipment manufacturing and installation projects at customer sites.   The Agricultural Engineer will support AHI business goals through partnering with our sales team and customers in providing automation solutions for feed manufacturing. The Agricultural Engineer will also develop processes for feed mill operations, design and support dispensing systems, and provide technical support service to our customers. #WeArePatterson

Essential Functions  

Equipment Design and Manufacturing

  • Responsible for developing hardware and control solutions for dispensing products.

  • Develop and maintain efficient equipment assembly and test procedures in manufacturing.

  • Create mechanical and electrical drawings using Solidworks.

  • Research, design, and implement improvements to existing and new equipment/control processes. Test and verify accurate machine operation with new products.

  • Work directly with manufactures on new products. Feed Mill Projects

  • Responsible for developing automation processes and control solutions for beef and dairy feed mill operations.

  • Provide technical support and consulting to customers on feed batching and mill operation.

  • Develop batcher and mill operational specifications for control system development.

  • Provide on-site support for installation and support of control solution projects. -

  • Coordinate with contractors on mill changes. Manage control system install projects.

Service Support

  • Provide on-site support to Field Service Technicians and customers to maintain proper operation of equipment.

  • Train personnel in all technical aspects of the equipment operation: trouble-shooting, service requirements, etc. -

  • Proficiency in ration calculations and data entry procedures.


  • Apply FDA GMP’s to process and equipment design for beef and dairy operations.

  • Support and train personnel in FDA regulations and procedures.

  • Perform required assays and other testing as directed by FDA regulations and/or company policies and procedures.

Job Qualification  

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineerisng, or equivalent experience.    

  • 3-5 years of mechanical/electrical experience.

  • Mechanical/electrical design and drafting abilities using Solidworks software.

  • Proven ability in process design and automation systems development.

  • Proven ability in process analysis, problem solving, and implementing solutions in a production environment.

  • Extensive experience in weighing systems, PLC systems, motor drives (frequency/DC), and other industrial automation devices.

  • Demonstrated success in prioritizing and time-management.

  • Oral or written communication skills.

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

  • Proficiency with office productivity tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electro/Mechanical Engineering ·

  • Feed mill operation with steam flaking of grain ·      

  • Agricultural work experience in the beef and dairy industries ·      

  • Hardware and control system design

  • This position requires moderate travel (50%)  in a national area.  

  • For this position being on-call is required.

Salary: 82,000-106,000
