The Sales Development Intern role is an exciting position for motivated and inquisitive individuals open to partnering with multiple stakeholders from Sales and Operations groups to influence Patterson’s Dental business and relationships with our valued customers. About the Internship:
Patterson Dental Sales organization drives our growth through distribution of dental supplies, dental equipment, and software. Our Sales team is the first point of contact for our dental clinics, and they begin cultivating relationships for long-term partnerships.
This is a summer internship suitable for students currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree in sales or professional sales certification program as part of a 4-year bachelor’s degree. We ask that all applicants are current students or recent graduates. Candidates must be located in one of our five Western branch territories (Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, LA, Hawaii or San Francisco) upon the start date of this internship, and for its entire duration. We are unable to support remote working at this time.
Our Sales team is looking for Sales Development Intern(s) to utilize their sales training to prospect potential new business for the Outside Sales team by cold calling as well as developing and engaging marketing leads. Sales Development Interns contribute to the delivery of overall sales goals by leading development through in person meetings, phone calls, texts, emailing and various other ways book appointments and schedule product demos. Our Summer Internship is a full–time program running during the summer months of 2024 (May-August).

Complete required Patterson trainings to learn sales strategy, company culture and gain industry knowledge
Achieve demo, call volume and other outreach goals measured at a daily, weekly, and monthly cadence while providing an excellent experience for prospective customers
Connect with prospects through written and verbal communication to book demos that show off the Patterson product offering and drive deal closure
Prospect potential accounts, searching for key points of contact
Drive engagement with prospects through marketing provided materials
Act as a consultant - take the time to understand your clients' needs and business priorities and address them head on asking thorough and pointed questions, guiding potential clients through needs analysis and discovery sessions to qualify the lead and drive new opportunities
Work closely with our Outside Sales team to learn about the needs of our clients and the end-to-end sales cycle
Consistent follow up on prospective client inquiries
Set and achieve a professional development goal while your internship
Support the vision and values of the company through role modeling and encouraging desired behaviors
Participate in various company initiatives and projects as requested
Additional functions
In addition to the essential functions listed above, the incumbent may perform the following additional functions.
Attend sales meetings
Participate in weekly one on one meetings with manager
Co-travel with mentor, manufacturing representatives or other key stakeholders
Plan and execute events
Required Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree in sales, business, economics, finance or related major or enrolled in a professional sales certification program as part of a 4-year bachelor’s degree.
Ability to work full-time, Monday through Friday, from May/June-August 2024
Passion for prospecting – you will act as the hunter of our sales team, finding and warming up leads to be shared with outside sales
Ability to operate with a strong sense of urgency and deliver results
Demonstrate curiosity with a positive attitude
Demonstrate prioritization skills to handle the large volume of leads efficiently
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Team player with entrepreneurial spirit and the desire to try new ideas to achieve greater levels of success
Self-motivated, persistent, and goal-oriented attitude and can work effectively as an individual or as part of a team
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite including in-depth knowledge of Outlook, Word, and Excel with the ability to pick up new systems and software easily
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience with a CRM is preferred
Prior internship experience, one year of work experience, or the equivalent
Working Conditions
This position requires traveling to customer locations and providing services and support to customers. Reliable transportation is required.
