Job Description Summary
The Data Platform Architect (BI) Architect is a key member of the Enterprise Data & Analytics team, responsible for the technical design and architecture of our business data platform and integration solutions. Our team focuses on our Data Foundation – collecting and connecting data across the enterprise to support business partners’ goals and Data Experience – the right tools and training for business partners to effectively gain insights from data. This position will drive that goal as the subject matter expert and thought leader in what capabilities the data platform and integration solutions can bring to Patterson. This position will architect various solutions to meet our business partners’ needs in accessing, modeling and distributing data.
  • Inquire around business partners’ business goals; understand and translate those goals to needs around data acquisition, modeling and integration.
  • Design innovative data solutions leveraging both cloud and on-premises technology to meet business partners’ goals, including proving these solutions by leading proof of concepts or test cases.
  • Create and maintain data platform and integration tools roadmap, balancing industry trends, capability needs, and technical debt.
  • Improve and maintain overall system health of our data platform and integration solutions, through design and implementation of best practices in architecture, development process and system monitoring.
  • Proactively engage in both internal and external learning opportunities for Data and Analytics, Data Warehousing and Data Integration.  Influence learnings into developers, data engineers, user groups, data analysts and data scientists.
  • Be a champion for, and design solutions using modern data integration and modeling techniques. Examples include Virtualization, Logical Data Warehousing, API-led, Event-driven, Pub/Sub, ETT vs ELT
  • Govern data acquisition, modeling and integration, including development and promotion standards, to ensure environment stability and limit disruption to users and downstream systems.
  • Drive engagement with Data & Analytics and knowledge share across Patterson, by participating or leading activities like User Groups or Hack-a-Thons

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Sciences, Mathematics, Engineering, Business, or related field
  • 7+ years of experience with a variety of data warehousing & integration tools with a preference towards SAP BusinessWarehouse (BW), SAP HANA, SQL Server, MS Azure, and/or Informatica.
  • 5+ years of experience with BI disciplines, with mastery of 2 of the following: Cloud, Data Integration, Modeling, or Analytics 
  • 5+ years of SQL experience with the ability to write complex SQL statements while leveraging optimal coding standards
  • 2 or more years of technical architecture experience
  • Proven analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate well with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Thought leadership and influence on data platform and integration capabilities and use cases
  • Knowing when and how to leverage various data stores and integration techniques including batch, messaging or pub-sub queuing systems and data processing frameworks.
  • Experience building robust relational database solutions along with designing, implementing, testing, migrating, deploying, and managing ETL and ELT solutions, with a focus on database design best practices.
  • Experience building solutions that endure over time by leveraging advanced testing techniques and implementing proper audits, alerts, and notification that proactively measure failures before they happen. 
  • Passion about learning and teaching new methods and practices

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years technical experience with Python, Node or other related languages.
  • 2+ years technical experience building custom UIs for data manipulation
  • Experience with multi-location user base
  • Experience with Cloud data solutions (i.e. Azure Synapse, Azure DataBricks, Snowflake)
