Digital Workplace Innovation Intern
Primary Location Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington, Minnesota Job ID R110132 ApplyThe Digital Workplace Innovation Intern will support the development, enhancement, and delivery of productivity, collaboration, and data‑driven solutions within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. This role blends elements of IT product management and business intelligence/data engineering, providing hands‑on experience with solution design, data modeling, workflow automation, and user experience improvements.
The intern will collaborate with cross‑functional business and IT teams to help evaluate requirements, build M365‑based tools, support data preparation and visualization activities, and assist with product lifecycle tasks that enhance the digital workplace experience for employees. This internship is intended for rising college juniors or seniors pursuing degrees in technology, data, or business‑related disciplines.
Essential Functions

Solution Development & M365 Support
- Assist in the design, build, and enhancement of tools within Microsoft 365, including Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint, and related digital workplace solutions.
- Support ongoing improvements to workflows, forms, dashboards, and collaboration tools.
- Participate in testing, documentation, and deployment activities for new or updated M365 applications.
Data & Analytics Support
- Prepare and organize data from multiple sources to support reporting and visualization initiatives.
- Assist with basic data modeling concepts and the development or refinement of Power BI dashboards.
- Support evaluation of data quality, trends, system performance, and improvement opportunities.
Product Management & User Experience
- Work with business stakeholders to gather requirements, understand user needs, and document pain points.
- Assist with product planning, backlog organization, release coordination, and user communication activities.
- Contribute to the creation of training materials, reference documentation, and change‑management resources.
Operational & Continuous Improvement
- Support day-to-day product and solution operations, including troubleshooting user issues or triaging enhancement requests.
- Participate in reviews of existing processes and help identify opportunities to streamline workflows through automation or improved digital tools.
- Maintain professional communication with stakeholders and uphold company policies and ethical principles.
Final Project Requirement
As part of the internship, the intern will complete a capstone project that demonstrates the skills and knowledge gained throughout the program. This project will include:
- Ideation: Identifying a meaningful business problem or improvement opportunity within the digital workplace space.
- Solution Development: Designing and building a prototype or functional solution using Microsoft 365 tools (e.g., Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, SharePoint).
- Presentation: Delivering a formal presentation of the solution, insights, and outcomes to IT leadership and key business stakeholders.
- Deployment (If Applicable): Supporting the rollout or transition of the solution into a pilot or production environment, including documentation and handoff to appropriate teams.
The final project is intended to offer real-world impact, reinforce practical learning, and allow the intern to showcase creativity, technical capability, and communication skills.
Job Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled as a junior or senior in a Bachelor’s degree program in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, Business Analytics, Engineering, or a related field.
- Interest or foundational experience with Microsoft 365 applications and basic data/analytics concepts.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to communicate clearly in both technical and user‑friendly language.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in team environments and manage multiple tasks.
- Self‑motivated with strong attention to detail and a desire to learn.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, SharePoint, or similar low‑code/no‑code platforms.
- Experience with data visualization or basic SQL concepts.
- Exposure to product management, UX, or process improvement methodologies.
- Interest in digital workplace technologies, data engineering, or automation.
Additional Information
- Internship duration is typically 10–12 weeks during the summer.
- This role may operate in a hybrid work environment, depending on organizational needs.
- Other duties as assigned may be required to support departmental or project objectives.
The starting pay for this role is $20 - $25 per hour.
