Overview


Job Summary

Oversees the activities of the Inventory Team, responsibilities include but are not limited to, people management, training, planning and assigning daily work, performance management, conflict resolution and providing coverage for any gaps within the department.  This position works in partnership with the Department Manager to understand and support the achievement of the facility goals for cost, quality, and safety.


Responsibilities


Essential Functions

Operations:

  • Conducts investigations and resolves inventory discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Alerts the shift Department Manager to any irregularities in the product inventory or processes (i.e. count and location errors, product shortages and product damage).
  • Completes all vendor recalls and purchasing requests to include vendor write-offs, vendor returns and product identification checks.
  • Demonstrates thorough understanding of the inventory strategy, efficient Fulfillment Center operation and participates in all major and minor inventory configuration change projects
  • Performs Quarterly physical inventory cycle counts and Biennial cage counts
  • Evaluates product placement, storage bins and manages expirations
  • Conducts routine compliance audits.
  • Performs duties of a warehouse employee if a critical need arises.
  • Develop action plans to improve the operational processes; promote continuous improvement strategies.

Leadership:

  • Provides direction, assigns responsibilities and motivates the team to achieve department goals
  • Communicates fulfillment center, network, and corporate information during daily start up meetings to employees.
  • Demonstrates conformance to Patterson’s Quality Management System through developing and achieving objectives and performing corrective and preventive action that promote continuous improvement.
  • Administer policies/procedures in a fair and consistent manner. Professionally address issues with employees utilizing the proper resources.
  • Occasionally may participate in the interviewing and selection process by making recommendations to the Department Manager and/or FC Manager regarding hiring decisions.
  • Identifies and addresses safety hazards and coach personnel in safety initiatives.
  • Keeps the fulfillment center aisles clear and maintains integrity of storage locations;
  • Maintains housekeeping standards and ensures that all sanitation requirements are met.
  • Provide FC Network support when needed (may include travel)
  • Create a positive work environment that promotes creativity, team work and recognition.
  • Establish, support, promote and participate in network, facility and departmental activities designed to strengthen and improve moral, team work and improve the overall work environment.

Talent Management

  • Determines proper staffing levels to ensure that all activities remain current.
  • Provides training to personnel, in compliance with standard operating procedures, to ensure that all department members fully understand and consistently execute all job duties.
  • Supervises personnel including setting expectations for behavior and collaborating with the Department Manager to resolve personnel issues.
  • Participates in the performance review process and makes recommendations for promotions and identifies and communicates the need for disciplinary action when appropriate.
  • Reviews and corrects timesheets on a daily basis for accurate submission to payroll for bi-weekly pay cycle.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Functions

  • Keeps the distribution center aisles clear and maintains integrity of storage locations;
  • Maintains the housekeeping and sanitation standards of the distribution center;
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

  • Performs duties at or above productivity and accuracy standards;
  • Supports the company goals for quality and continuous improvement;
  • Contributes to an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation among all distribution center staff.

Working Conditions

Physical Demands: This position requires frequent continuous physical activity

  • Must be able to be on your feet both walking and in a standing position more than 6 hours per day
  • Must be able to operate forklift
  • Must be able to position self to lift, move, open and flatten boxes and packaging.

Environmental Factors

The fulfillment center is a warehouse for the storage and fulfillment of dental, production animal, and companion animal supplies and equipment.  In general, the building’s primary work area consists of pallet storage racking, roller storage and small item storage shelving.  The facility uses powered conveyor systems for the transportation of products. Pallet jacks and forklifts are used for palletized products. Some positions require use of safety equipment, which is provided as needed.

Minimun Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1 or more years in a Patterson Fulfillment Center or equivalent experience
  • Proven soft skills – analytical, problem solving, communication, interpersonal
  • Organized, strong attention to detail, and follow through on
  • Demonstrated success in prioritizing and time-management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Experience working in SAP and utilizing inventory systems
  • Warehouse leadership experience
  • Previous experience managing a team of employees
