The Laboratory Technician Lead performs a range of microbiological and analytical laboratory testing and support activities. Additionally, this role assists in leading and direct all lab operations, including but not limited to workforce planning, safety training, and protocols.
Essential Functions

Perform physical, bacteriological, chemical, or serological test on a variety of samples.
Assist with various office and laboratory management duties as needed.
Perform a variety of dairy procedures including standard and lab pasteurized plate counts, coliform counts, mastitis tests, RID assays, phosphatase, and inhibitory substances tests.
Perform a variety of secondary test to assist in the lab including but not limited to MALDI, PCR, BVD, and sending lab reports.
Prepare specialized bacteriological culture media and reagents according to formulae.
Follow standards and procedures to maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
Log samples, record results, and related information.
Keep detailed records.
Operate and maintain standard laboratory equipment.
Keep current with technical skill development.
Assist in compliance, regulatory and business requirements including but not limited to creating lab protocols, billing, ensuring corporate vehicle compliance, and maintenance of equipment.
Assisting veterinarians in reading Mycoplasma and blood agar plates.
Support the Lab Manager with certain management responsibilities including supporting employee skill building and professional development, supporting the resolution of employee issues, and coaching or mentoring employees.
Works and leads in accordance with Patterson Companies’ core values.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional functions
In addition to the essential functions listed below, the incumbent may perform the following additional functions.
As business needs require pick-up milk samples and deliver them to the lab in a timely fashion and meet predetermined route expectations while handling all customer interactions with professionalism, skill, and expediency.
Perform all work in accordance with Company Safety guidelines and procedures including all required Safety and Compliance Training and regulatory licensing.
Job Qualifications
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of four (4) years’ experience as a Laboratory Technician.
Exceptional laboratory skills and understanding a general lab and office equipment.
Exceptional computer and data management skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize.
Exceptional analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy of work performed.
Self-motivated.
Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Capable of working independently with minimal guidance.
Proven ability to direct daily work including ability to teach and train others.
Demonstrated knowledge of overall lab operations, responsibilities, and expectations.
Must maintain a valid state driver’s license and good driving record.
Ability to pass a drug test and background study.
Authorized to work for any employer in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree.
Leadership experience preferred.
The potential compensation range for this role is below. The final offer amount would be based on various factors such as candidate location (geographical labor market), experience, and skills. $19.95 - $25.19
