Production / Graphics Designer (Temporary Contract)

Primary LocationEdmonton, Canada Job ID R110285 Apply

Job Summary

We’re looking for a Production Designer with strong technical skills in Adobe Creative Cloud and exceptional attention to detail. The role focuses primarily on updating and producing large promotional books (80–100+ pages) using existing templates. Most of the work involves importing, organizing, and formatting product data from Excel, updating pricing, and ensuring layout accuracy. Creative design work is part of the role, but the emphasis is on precision, consistency, and efficient production in a fast‑paced environment where accuracy cannot be compromised.

This is not an entry‑level role. The successful candidate should be comfortable working with long documents, structured data, and production workflows.

Responsibilities

Document Production & Layout

  • Update and maintain large multi‑page promo books (80–100+ pages) using established templates.
  • Import and format product data, pricing, and descriptions from Excel.
  • Ensure layout consistency across all pages, including typography, spacing, and alignment.
  • Prepare final files for print and digital distribution.

Technical & Data‑Driven Tasks

  • Work with Excel files to clean, organize, and prepare product data for layout.
  • Use data‑merge or similar workflows in InDesign to automate repetitive layout tasks.
  • Maintain version control and track changes across multiple revisions.
  • Troubleshoot formatting issues, broken links, missing assets, and template inconsistencies.

Graphic Design Tasks (20%)

  • Update graphics, banners, and promotional elements within the established brand style.
  • Create simple visual assets when needed (icons, product callouts, small layout adjustments).
  • Ensure all design work aligns with brand guidelines.

Quality Control

  • Perform thorough proofreading and visual checks for accuracy in pricing, product codes, and descriptions.
  • Validate that all imported data matches the source Excel file.
  • Ensure color, resolution, and formatting meet print and digital standards.
  • Maintain accuracy and consistency even under tight deadlines and rapid turnaround cycles.

Required Skills

Technical Skills

  • Strong proficiency with Adobe InDesign (long‑document workflows, styles, master pages, data merge).
  • Solid experience with Photoshop and Illustrator for asset editing.
  • Strong Excel skills (sorting, filtering, cleaning data, basic formulas).
  • Experience working with structured data and template‑based production.
  • Ability to manage large files and complex document structures.

Experience Level

  • 2–5+ years in production design, prepress, or technical graphic design.
  • Experience producing catalogs, brochures, manuals, or other long‑form documents.
  • Comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment with high accuracy expectations.

Soft Skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational habits and file management.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable with repetitive, precision‑driven tasks.
  • Clear communication and ability to follow structured workflows.

Additional Skills Considered an Asset

  • Fluency in written French for bilingual content review or production.
  • Professional experience in IT support, such as resolving user issues, troubleshooting hardware/software problems, managing file systems, or supporting internal teams. This is highly valued, as the role may evolve into a hybrid Graphics + IT Support position after the maternity‑leave coverage period and may be reflected in overall compensation.
  • Experience with print production or prepress.
  • Ability to quickly spot inconsistencies in data or layout.
