Operations Manager

Job Summary

Lead and direct all operations of the Fulfillment Center of 30 or less employees. Design and implement the facility plan to optimize cost, quality, and safety. Manages daily activities of a fulfillment center. Responsible for identifying and building a leadership team that monitors inventory integrity, minimize loss and manage expenses to maximize revenue. Ensures that goods are received, stocked, and dispatched on time meeting customer satisfaction. May be responsible for evaluating freight services, negotiating contracts, and managing relationships with chosen vendors.  Ensures that all company policies, regulatory requirements and safety requirements are enforced.

Leadership:

  • The ability to lead or guide individuals and teams to meet company strategy and goals. Acts as Human Resource liaison for Fulfillment Center employees.

  • Work closely with leadership to establish and achieve the facility goals from a cost and productivity standpoint.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with both internal and external customers

  • Provide FC Network support when needed (may include travel)

  • Create a positive work environment that promotes creativity, team work and recognition.

  • Establish, support, promote and participate in network, facility and departmental activities designed to strengthen and improve morale, team work and improve the overall work environment.

  • Responsible for safety performance of the location

Talent Management:

  • Work with FC Leadership Team to provide various training programs to enhance employee skills and acquire new knowledge and skills. Must identify high potential candidates that will build the bench strength of the FC and develop these individuals.

  • Collaborates with leaders for all staffing functions (recruiting, hiring, assignment of duties, training, personnel development and performance reviews, salary administration, promotions and transfers, and disciplinary action including termination.

  • Mentor employees, measure performance, and complete regular performance reviews.

  • Resolve employee issues in an effective and consistent manner.

Operations:

  • Plan, direct, and control activities of the facility department from receiving, put away, picking and shipping
  • Ensure all orders received before order cut-off are processed and shipped according to customer requests.
  • Analyze the daily receiving and put away status on hand
  • Review and analyze productivity reports and dashboards identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement. 
  • Manage and monitor all activities of Inventory control and maintenance
  • Communicates the facility goals for cost, quality, and safety to the FC staff, which includes Department Managers, warehouse and office personnel. Using extensive knowledge of fulfillment operations and organizational expertise, develops the understanding and capabilities of the FC team to accomplish these goals.
  • Reports to Area Manager or Director of Region Operations and provides regular location updates,
  • Ensures regulatory compliance with Federal, State, and Local laws, including EEO, AAP, FDA, EPA, DOT and OSHA. Ensures compliance with all Patterson Companies, Inc. personnel policies.
  • Acquires and maintains information on distribution industry changes to remain knowledgeable of the most current distribution methods available.
  • Full P&L and budgeting responsibility for the location
  • Supports the company goals for continuous improvement and "Total Quality Management (TQM)". Provides guidance to the departmental TQM teams and facilitates special project teams as required. Develops an organizational culture characterized by open communication, cooperation and trust.

Job Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, operations management and Distribution/Fulfillment Logistics or equivalent work experience is required.

  • 8+ years supervision experience and 5 years of leadership responsibility.

  • 3+ years ERP experience (SAP preferred)

  • Proven soft skills – analytical, problem solving, communication, interpersonal

  • Organized, strong attention to detail, and follow through 

  • Demonstrated success in leadership, prioritizing and time-management

  • Complete provided CPR & First Aid training upon hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in SAP and utilizing inventory systems

  • Warehouse leadership experience

  • 10+ years working in a logistics operation

  • Candidate must be able to read, understand, and effectively administer all company policies and procedures.

  • Expert knowledge of all information systems used during daily business (D.C. computerized order and inventory system, PC applications for word processing, spreadsheets, and databases).

  • 2+ years SAP EWM experience

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a budget and execute operations plans to meet expense goals.

  • Experience with financial controls and the analytical skills needed to understand how the management of daily operations translates into monthly, quarterly, and annual expense lines.

  • Familiarity with procedures for capital request, financial justification, and project administration.

Working Conditions

Environmental Factors

Office and warehouse environment.  The Fulfillment center is a warehouse for the storage and distribution of dental, , veterinary supplies and equipment.  In general, the building’s primary work area consists of pallet storage racking, roller storage and small item storage shelving.  The facility uses powered conveyor systems for the transportation of products. Pallet jacks and forklifts are used for palletized products. Some positions require use of safety equipment, which is provided as needed.

Physical Demands

  • Able to lift & carry up to 55 pounds

  • Team lift 56 to 100 pounds

  • Walking and standing – 50% daily

  • Sitting -50% daily

  • Telephone use – 50% daily

  • Computer use – 80% daily

Travel and On-Call

  • This position requires up to quarterly travel for meeting and training

  • The Operations Manager is part of the on-call rotation for security concerns, response to temp monitoring, employee related issues/concerns, and emergency situations that require the attention of the position.


The potential compensation range for this role is below. The final offer amount would be based on various factors such as candidate location (geographical labor market), experience, and skills. $81,300.00 - $99,600.00
