Lead SAP Platform Engineer

The Lead Engineer is accountable for leading the implementation of products or projects, including design, development, documentation, and testing for successful implementation of new or changed software applications. The Lead Engineer is also responsible for introducing and maintaining software development best practices, standards, and processes, assisting in change and release management activities and mentoring employees.

The Lead Engineer in Enterprise Business Services will drive the design, implementation, and optimization of our SAP systems.As a technical expert and leader, you will bring deep expertise in SAP architecture, development and integration frameworks while managing cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and innovative solutions.The ideal candidate will possess robust technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and collaborative work environment.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Architecture & Design: Define and review system architecture, ensuring scalability, security, usability, and maintainability.Lead design for and deployment of integrated end-to-end solutions; facilitate integration with other IT delivery team members to ensure efficient and effective design, development and implementation of solutions.

  • Technical Execution: Guide the implementation of solutions, ensuring high-quality code and adherence to best practices and DevOps mindsetDefine and implement the technical roadmap for the product, choosing appropriate technologies, architectures, and tools to align with business objectives.

  • Reviews & Standards: Review functional specifications for solutions,enforce coding/configuration/integration standards, perform reviews, and enforce best practices.Provide input to architecture, security, and data standards; ensure end-to-end solutions adhere to these standards.

  • Problem Solving & Debugging: Act as a go-to person for resolving complex technical issues.

  • Tooling & Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve development processes and tooling by staying informed of industry and technology trends, innovation, and platform roadmaps.Evaluate new tools or methodologies and propose improvements or new features.

  •  Data Management:Develop and implement best data organization, storage, and retrieval practices, optimizations. Works closely with data and integration architects to ensure seamless and efficient data integration processesTroubleshoots and resolves data integration issues, ensuring data accuracy and consistency.Identifies and addresses performance bottlenecks in queries and data processing.

  • Performance Optimization: Ensure systems are efficient and optimized for performance.

  • Compliance & Security: Ensure all SAP solutions comply with organizational policies, industry standards, and security protocols.

  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, processes, and procedures.Own overall inventory of reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, forms, and/or workflow.

  • Support:Transition support after project implementation to the support organization through documentation and knowledge transfer. Provide technical expertiserequired to resolve escalated support issues. As needed, provide technical leadership in support of audit requests

Leadership & Team Management

  • Mentoring & Coaching – Help junior and mid-level engineers grow their technical and problem-solving skills.Guide complex fit/gap analysis and design decisions and validate fit/gap analysis and design decisions completed by less experienced team members; ensure deviations from “out of the box” functionality have sufficient business justification and positive value proposition  

  • Collaboration & Communication – Work closely with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to align goals and priorities.Interface with third-party vendors for technical consulting during solution design, development, and ongoing support.Facilitate estimates for time and resource needs of identified solutions Provide technical solution consultation for major decision points on projects.

  • Delegation & Task Assignment – Assign work effectively, ensuring balance across the team.Provide regular and accurate status updates and other documentation to management and team members for assigned project, support, and enhancement work.

  • Cross-Team Coordination – Collaborate with other teams to ensure seamless integration and dependencies are managed.Provide leadership in planning/sequencing end-to-end design workshops and support facilitation of workshops, leveraging knowledge of industry best practices. 

  • Technical Roadmap Planning – Contribute to planning and prioritization for future technical initiatives.

Strategic & Business Alignment

  • Stakeholder Engagement – Work with business and product teams to ensure technical solutions align with business objectivesand customer needs.

  • Risk Management – Identify potential technical risks and propose mitigation strategies.

  • Innovation & Continuous Learning – Stay updated on new technologies and trends to keep the team and company competitive.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors in computer science, Information Systems, a related field or equivalent work experience.  

Technical Qualifications:

  • 7+ years' experience in software development, system configuration, system administration, Integrations, system architecture, and design patterns.

  • Proficiency in relevant platform configurations, programming languages, frameworks, and tools (e.g., ERP, cloud technologies, databases).

  • Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, software development lifecycle (SDLC), and platform best practices.

  • Strong debugging, problem-solving, and performance optimization skills.

  • Knowledge of security, scalability, and maintainability principles.

  • Ability to analyze across a range of platforms and applications and see interconnections between organizational systems.

Leadership & Management Qualifications:

  • Proven experience leading engineering teams, mentoring developers, and driving technical excellence.

  • Experience in Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and project management.

  • Strong decision-making and problem-resolution skills, especially in high-impact scenarios.

  • Ability to balance technical priorities with business needs, ensuring efficient project execution.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, working with business users, product managers, and IT leadership.

  • Ability to delegate effectively while maintaining visibility into technical execution.

  • Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace, with experience leading teams from varied backgrounds.

  • Strong analytical, organization, time management, facilitation, and process management skills

  • Able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment, and with all levels of the organization and cope with rapidly changing information

  • Ability to evaluate and negotiate priorities and adapt to new/evolving individual and team assignments as adjustments are needed.

  • Maintains a positive work environment through teamwork & conflict resolution 

Business & Strategic Alignment:

  • Understanding business objectives and ability to align technical decisions with company goals.

  • Experience in stakeholder management and influencing decisions without direct authority.

  • Ability to effectively communicate to all levels of an organization how current trends and technology can address identified business needs and capabilities

  • Ability to evaluate trade-offs between technical debt, innovation, and business needs.

REQUIRED DOMAIN QUALIFICATIONS:

Technical Qualifications:

  • 7+ Years of Experience & Technical Expertise in

  • SAP Products and Technologies that are On-prem and Cloud offeringsExperience in technical Planning, Implementation, system migrations and upgrades of Business Suite applications and SAP S/4 HANA

  • SAP Technical Design and Deployments with High Availability, Disaster Recovery and Security best practices

  • Expert level knowledge in Performance tuning of SAP Applications running on SQL Server and HANA

  • Strong working knowledge in Windows and Linux operating system platforms

  • Proficiency in cloud technologies (Azure and SAP BTP), Azure DevOPS (ADO) and building Pipelines for Automation

  • Familiarity with SAP Single Sign-on, Azure AD, Kerberos and other Authentication mechanisms

  • Proficiency in Integration Platforms and iPaaS Solutions like SAP Integration Suite and Microsoft Logic Apps

  • SAP Data Archivingand Data Volume Management 

  • Deep knowledge of SAP solutions covering Wholesale Distribution, Sales, Procurement, Supply Chain, and Finance

Leadership & Management Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of Experience leading SAP Technical teams, mentorship, and guiding solution design.

  • Experience with agile methodologies in SAP environments, driving iterative improvements and delivery efficiency.

  • Deep understanding of enterprise IT strategy, aligning SAP initiatives with business goals.

  • Ability to translate business requirements into scalable SAP solutions.

  • Proven ability to drive process improvements, ensuring SAP platform efficiency and reliability.


The potential compensation range for this role is below. The final offer amount would be based on various factors such as candidate location (geographical labor market), experience, and skills. $120,200.00 - $150,300.00
