Manager, Pharmacy Operations
Primary Location Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington, Minnesota Job ID R110403 ApplyThe Manager of Pharmacy Operations oversees day-to-day dispensing activities, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient distribution of medications in accordance with organizational policies and federal and state regulations. This role leads a team of pharmacists, technicians, and support staff, driving operational performance, quality standards, and regulatory adherence across pharmacy operations. The position applies broad technical, regulatory, and operational expertise to achieve functional objectives and ensure continuous, reliable service to customers.
Essential Functions
- Lead and manage pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, technicians, and support staff, by setting clear goals, providing coaching and performance feedback, and ensuring staffing levels support safe, compliant, and efficient dispensing operations.
- Oversee daily pharmacy operations, ensuring medications and supplies are stored, handled, dispensed, and documented in alignment with organizational policies and applicable federal and state regulations (e.g., Board of Pharmacy, DEA, FDA).
- Maintain ongoing audit readiness by establishing quality protocols, performing regular compliance reviews, and proactively addressing operational or regulatory gaps to ensure successful inspections by state and federal agencies.
- Manage pharmacy budgets and inventory, ensuring proper medication availability, minimizing waste, and maintaining accurate records supporting prescription fulfillment, purchasing, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify training needs and support staff development, partnering with Regulatory Operations, Compliance, HR, and facility leadership to design and implement training programs that reinforce competency and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., facility leaders, regulatory bodies, veterinary partners) to resolve dispensing issues, address regulatory requirements, and support operational improvement initiatives.
- Lead or support regulatory and compliance activities, including gap assessments, documentation preparation, project coordination, and responding to inquiries or requests for information from state and federal agencies.
- Drive operational improvements by evaluating dispensing, distribution, and purchasing workflows, recommending process enhancements, and developing contingency plans to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
- Comply with Company and department policies and standards; performs other duties as assigned
People Management
- Accountable for team staffing and managing direct reports to include development, performance management, goal setting, and other managerial duties
- Ensures direct reports are aware of and follow ethical business practices and Company’s Code of Conduct to maintain a supportive and productive working environment.
Minimum Requirements
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy
- 6 years pharmacy related experience
- 2 years of prior supervisory or management experience
Preferred Requirements
- Experience working in a distribution or high-volume dispensing environment
- Experience collaborating with regulatory agencies or supporting compliance audits
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of veterinary pharmacy regulations or related industry requirements
- Strong knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations governing drug distribution, including DEA, FDA, and Board of Pharmacy requirements.
- Prior experience in a dispensing pharmacy environment with understanding of end to end medication handling workflows.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, including performance management, coaching, and staff development.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance processes, including audit readiness and corrective action planning.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate operational issues, identify risks, and recommend data supported solutions.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with internal teams, external partners, and regulatory bodies.

The potential compensation range for this role is below. The final offer amount would be based on various factors such as candidate location (geographical labor market), experience, and skills. $139,200.00 - $174,000.00
