Payroll Tax Analyst

The Payroll Analyst is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of payroll obligations, including but not limited to, tax registrations & filings, documentation, vendor relationships, audits, reconciliations, and issue remediation.

Essential Functions

  • Respond to notices and inquiries from agencies with clarity and professionalism, maintaining trust and ensuring timely resolution of issues
  • Ensure payroll activities comply with federal, state, and local regulations, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of applicable laws and internal policies reducing risk of penalties and ensuring full compliance
  • Evaluate current payroll processes to identify inefficiencies and recommends improvements that enhance operational effectiveness and data accuracy
  • Collaborates cross-functionally to ensure payroll data integrity across systems, reducing manual corrections and improving reporting accuracy
  • Implement approved system and process enhancements to streamline payroll operations and reduce manual errors; create and maintain Payroll documents and procedures
  • Prepare and deliver detailed payroll reports to stakeholders, to support business initiatives, financial analysis and decision-making; review reports periodically to ensure accurate reporting
  • Provide escalation support to Payroll Coordinators on complex Payroll transactions and employee inquiries in a timely and professional manner, ensuring high levels of service and satisfaction; may provide mentorship to Payroll Coordinators
  • Assist with internal and external audits and reconciliation for payroll related taxes and activities; review and resolve any discrepancies timely
  • Monitors employee deductions and disbursements to ensure proper compliance
  • Maintains complete and accurate documentation for all payroll transactions, ensuring audit readiness and compliance
  • Maintain and update company and employee tax setups across systems and relevant agency websites to ensure accuracy, compliance, and proper registration and setup at the state and local levels
  • Ensures that all reporting, including taxes, are completed accurately and timely payroll tax returns, minimizing exposure to interest or fines
  • Comply with Company and department policies and standards; performs other duties as assigned


Minimum Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Human Resources or equivalent education and/or experience
  • 5 years of multi-state payroll experience
  • 1 year Payroll Tax experience with multiple states & legal entities


Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Human Resources or equivalent education and/or experience
  • 1 year Workday Payroll experience


Skills and Abilities

  • Strong time management and prioritization abilities
  • Effective communicator, able to partner cross-functionally to gather and disseminate information
  • Able to independently research and resolve issues that may span multiple systems, departments, companies, and/or agencies
  • Deep operational and technical payroll knowledge, including local taxes and tax reciprocity rules and regulations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

This person must be within 50 miles of our Mendota Heights office location. Role is hybrid in office.


The potential compensation range for this role is below. The final offer amount would be based on various factors such as candidate location (geographical labor market), experience, and skills. $58,900.00 - $72,200.00
